20 Years from Now

I'm not quiet sure if I can see myself 20 years from now? Maybe I'm not that very old but I guess I have a family of my own and more stable with work.

I was inspired to write about this post because currently we have more grannies in our ward. And working or caring for them is a bit tough. You'll never know what they really want. One patient want this but another one wants different. Personally, I understand their sentiments, their longing for attention, care and love especially if their loved ones aren't there to show those kind of love.

You see, they are too sensitive even with smallest details done on them and mind you they scold nurses like their own family members. It may be funny at times but I guess deep inside they must be hurting, agonizing and longing for love.

Keep on Knocking, Keep on Asking, Keep on Seeking

When Colonel Harland Sanders retired at the age of 65, he had little to show for himself, except an old Caddie roadster, a $105 monthly pension check, and a recipe for chicken.

Knowing he couldn't live on his pension, he took his chicken recipe in hand, got behind the wheel of his van, and set out to make his fortune. His first plan was to sell his chicken recipe to restaurant owners, who would in turn give him a residual for every piece of chicken they sold--5 cents per chicken. The first restaurateur he called on turned him down.

So did the second.

So did the third.

In fact, the first 1008 sales calls Colonel Sanders made ended in rejection. Still, he continued to call on owners as he traveled across the USA, sleeping in his car to save money. Prospect number 1009 gave him his first "yes."

After two years of making daily sales he had signed up a total of five restaurants. Still the Colonel pressed on, knowing that he had a great chicken recipe and that someday the idea would catch on.

Of course, you know how the story ends. The idea DID catch on. By 1963 the Colonel had 600 restaurants across the country selling his secret recipe of Kentucky Fried Chicken (with 11 herbs and spices).

In 1964 he was bought out by future Kentucky governor John Brown. Even though the sale made him a multi-millionaire, he continued to represent and promote KFC until his death in 1990.

Colonel Sanders' story teaches an important lesson: its never too late to decide to never give up.

Earlier in his life the Colonel was involved in other business ventures--but they weren't successful. He had a gas station in the 30's, a restaurant in the 40's, and he gave up on both of them. At the age of 65, however, Harland Sanders decided his chicken idea was the right idea, and he refused to give up, even in spite of repeated rejection.

He knew that if he kept on knocking on doors, eventually someone would say "yes." This is how Jesus has commanded to approach life. He said, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." (Luke 11:9) This verse follows a story Jesus told emphasizing the importance of a "never-give-up" attitude in prayer. Jesus is saying, "Ask--not just once, but as many times as is necessary. Keep on knocking till the door is opened." If you have made half-hearted attempts at doing God's will in your life...if you have given up too easily in the past...remember: It's never too late to become persistent. It's never too late to decide to never give up. Keep on knocking. Keep on asking. Keep on seeking.

To stare idly at nothingness; to fantasize about the impossible; to wish for things that can never be achieved; to hope for a love that can never be given.

To sit like a statue in the midst of darkness; to cry and yet not shed a single tear.

To be devoid of emotion; or at least be adept at hiding pain and frustration; to always seem to move on and yet in truth dwell in the past; to forgive but never forget.

To be ruled by fear rejection and yet foolishly try and try again to establish a connection; to fail at it; to try again, and again, and again, and again; and to disappoint myself each time.

To want to love and be loved in return, and find only emptiness and loneliness.

To have people think I’m crazy; and yet know that they just don’t understand; to suffer the indignation of having to notice every bit of ignorance, stupidity, and narrow-mindedness the world possesses and hate it; all the while grappling with the reality that I’m not so perfect myself.

To be fated to be loved only misery, melancholy, melodrama, and self-pity; to love a person who does not seem to exist; to put all my hopes, dreams, ambitions and aspirations on a person who’s probably going to let me down someday.

To bare out my soul this way because there isn’t any other means by which I can express myself; to fill dozens of notebooks with unspoken thoughts; and to read them again and again from time to time just to remind myself how pathetic I am.

To be a dreamer and a realist at the same time; to ask myself questions I know the answers to; to speak to myself for lack of another person to talk to.

To devour romantic movies and relish each kiss, each dance, each song, each and every single piece of dialogue as if it were my own; and to know the whole time that such things will never happen in my life.

To believe in forever and everlasting love, and yet be given the complete opposite every time I do fall in love.

To tell anyone who bothers to listen that I see myself married to her; and then lose her; to say it again about another person; and lose her the same way.

To fail at almost everything I try to do; to be ridiculed at every decision I make; to have people I know make stupid jokes and hurtful comments behind my back.

To always be second best or less; to watch my dreams fade away into nothing; to always have to suck it all up and say “Shit happens.”

To realize that all of this is my fault; that I make myself miserable; that I choose to wallow in self-pity and melodrama; and know that I can do absolutely nothing about it, since it seems that it’s the only thing I can do well.

Yes, I am truly destined to be alone and miserable.

Want a drug that could lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer? That could lift your mood and treat headaches? That could lower your risk of cavities?

If it sounds too good to be true, think again.

Coffee, the much maligned but undoubtedly beloved beverage, just made headlines for possibly cutting the risk of the latest disease epidemic, type 2 diabetes. And the real news seems to be that the more you drink, the better.

Reducing Disease Risk

After analyzing data on 126,000 people for as long as 18 years, Harvard researchers calculate that compared with not partaking in America's favorite morning drink, downing one to three cups of caffeinated coffee daily can reduce diabetes risk by single digits. But having six cups or more each day slashed men's risk by 54% and women's by 30% over java avoiders.

Though the scientists give the customary "more research is needed" before they recommend you do overtime at Starbuck's to specifically prevent diabetes, their findings are very similar to those in a less-publicized Dutch study. And perhaps more importantly, it's the latest of hundreds of studies suggesting that coffee may be something of a health food -- especially in higher amounts.

In recent decades, some 19,000 studies have been done examining coffee's impact on health. And for the most part, their results are as pleasing as a gulp of freshly brewed Breakfast Blend for the 108 million Americans who routinely enjoy this traditionally morning -- and increasingly daylong -- ritual. In practical terms, regular coffee drinkers include the majority of U.S. adults and a growing number of children.

"Overall, the research shows that coffee is far more healthful than it is harmful," says Tomas DePaulis, PhD, research scientist at Vanderbilt University's Institute for Coffee Studies, which conducts its own medical research and tracks coffee studies from around the world. "For most people, very little bad comes from drinking it, but a lot of good."

Consider this: At least six studies indicate that people who drink coffee on a regular basis are up to 80% less likely to develop Parkinson's, with three showing the more they drink, the lower the risk. Other research shows that compared to not drinking coffee, at least two cups daily can translate to a 25% reduced risk of colon cancer, an 80% drop in liver cirrhosis risk, and nearly half the risk of gallstones.

Coffee even offsets some of the damage caused by other vices, some research indicates. "People who smoke and are heavy drinkers have less heart disease and liver damage when they regularly consume large amounts of coffee compared to those who don't," says DePaulis.

There's also some evidence that coffee may help manage asthma and even control attacks when medication is unavailable, stop a headache, boost mood, and even prevent cavities.

Is it the caffeine? The oodles of antioxidants in coffee beans, some of which become especially potent during the roasting process? Even other mysterious properties that warrant this intensive study?

Actually, yes.

Some of coffee's reported benefits are a direct result of its higher caffeine content: An eight ounce cup of drip-brewed coffee contains about 85 mg -- about three and a half times more than the same serving of tea or cola or one ounce of chocolate.

"The evidence is very strong that regular coffee consumption reduces risk of Parkinson's disease and for that, it's directly related to caffeine," DePaulis tells WebMD. "In fact, Parkinson's drugs are now being developed that contain a derivative of caffeine based on this evidence."

Caffeine is also what helps in treating asthma and headaches. Though not widely publicized, a single dose of pain reliever such as Anacin or Excedrin contains up to 120 milligrams -- what's in a hefty mug o' Joe.

Boost to Athleticism

It's also caffeine -- and not coffee, per se -- that makes java a powerful aid in enhancing athletic endurance and performance, says physiologist and longtime coffee researcher Terry Graham, PhD, of the University of Guelph in Canada. So powerful, in fact, that until recently, caffeine in coffee or other forms was deemed a "controlled" substance by the Olympic Games Committee, meaning that it could be consumed only in small, designated amounts by competing athletes.

"What caffeine likely does is stimulate the brain and nervous system to do things differently," he tells WebMD. "That may include signaling you to ignore fatigue or recruit extra units of muscle for intense athletic performance. Caffeine may even have a direct effect on muscles themselves, causing them to produce a stronger contraction. But what's amazing about it is that unlike some performance-enhancing manipulation some athletes do that are specific for strength or sprinting or endurance, studies show that caffeine positively enhances all of these things."

How does this brew affect growing minds and bodies? Very nicely, it seems, says DePaulis. Coffee, as you probably know, makes you more alert, which can boost concentration. But claims that it improves a child's academic performance can be exaggerated. Coffee-drinking kids may do better on school tests because they're more awake, but most task-to-task lab studies suggest that coffee doesn't really improve mental performance, says DePaulis.

But it helps kids' minds in another way. "There recently was a study from Brazil finding that children who drink coffee with milk each day are less likely to have depression than other children," he tells WebMD. "In fact, no studies show that coffee in reasonable amounts is in any way harmful to children."

On the flip side, it's clear that coffee isn't for everyone. Its legendary jolt in excess doses -- that is, more than whatever your individual body can tolerate -- can increase nervousness, hand trembling, and cause rapid heartbeat. Coffee may also raise cholesterol levels in some people and may contribute to artery clogging. But most recent large studies show no significant adverse effects on most healthy people, although pregnant women, heart patients, and those at risk for osteoporosis may still be advised to limit or avoid coffee.

The bottom line: "People who already drink a lot of coffee don't have to feel 'guilty' as long as coffee does not affect their daily life," says Hu. "They may actually benefit from coffee habits in the long run."

In other words, consume enough caffeine -- whether it's from coffee or another source -- and you will likely run faster, last longer and be stronger. What's enough? As little as one cup can offer some benefit, but the real impact comes from at least two mugs, says Graham. By comparison, it'd take at least eight glasses of cola to get the same effect, which isn't exactly conducive for running a marathon.

But the harder you exercise, the more benefit you may get from coffee. "Unfortunately, where you see the enhancing effects from caffeine is in hard-working athletes, who are able to work longer and somewhat harder," says Graham, who has studied the effects of caffeine and coffee for nearly two decades. "If you a recreational athlete who is working out to reduce weight or just feel better, you're not pushing yourself hard enough to get an athletic benefit from coffee or other caffeinated products."

But you can get other benefits from coffee that have nothing to do with caffeine. "Coffee is loaded with antioxidants, including a group of compounds called quinines that when administered to lab rats, increases their insulin sensitivity" he tells WebMD. This increased sensitivity improves the body's response to insulin.

That may explain why in that new Harvard study, those drinking decaf coffee but not tea beverages also showed a reduced diabetes risk, though it was half as much as those drinking caffeinated coffee.

"We don't know exactly why coffee is beneficial for diabetes," lead researcher Frank Hu, MD, tells WebMD. "It is possible that both caffeine and other compounds play important roles. Coffee has large amounts of antioxidants such as chlorogenic acid and tocopherols, and minerals such as magnesium. All these components have been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism."

Meanwhile, Italian researchers credit another compound called trigonelline, which gives coffee its aroma and bitter taste, for having both antibacterial and anti-adhesive properties to help prevent dental cavities from forming. There are other theories for other conditions.

Filipino wedding tradition

Filipinos still adhere to numerous widely-held folk beliefs that have no scientific or logical basis but maybe backed-up by some past experiences (yet can be dismissed as mere coincidence). Below are just a few that concerns weddings. Some are still practiced to this day primarily because of 'there's nothing to lose if we comply' attitude while the others are totally ignored for it seemed downright ridiculous.

Brides shouldn't try on her wedding dress before the wedding day or the wedding will not push through. Knives and other sharp and pointed objects are said to be a bad choice for wedding gifts for this will lead to a broken marriage.

Giving arinola (chamberpot) as wedding gift is believed to bring good luck to newlyweds. Altar-bound couples are accident-prone and therefore must avoid long drives or traveling before their wedding day for safety.

The groom who sits ahead of his bride during the wedding ceremony will be a henpecked husband. If it rains during the wedding, it means prosperity and happiness for the newlyweds.
- A flame extinguished on one of the wedding candles means the one on which side has the unlit candle, will die ahead of the other.

Throwing rice confetti at the newlyweds will bring them prosperity all their life.

The groom must arrive before the bride at the church to avoid bad luck.

It is considered bad luck for two siblings to marry on the same year.

The Engagement

After the couple has decided to marry, the first order of business is the pamanhikan, where the groom and his parents visit the bride's family to ask for her hand in marriage. Wedding plans are often made at this time, including a discussion of the budget and guest list. Don't be surprised if the groom-to-be is expected to run some errands or help out around the bride's house. This tradition is called paninilbihan, where the suitor renders service to his future wife's family to gain their approval.

The Wedding Outfits

The white wedding dress has become popular in the last hundred years or so with America's influence in the Philippines. Before that, brides wore their best dress, in a festive color or even stylish black, to celebrate a wedding. Orange blossom bouquets and adornments were a must during the turn of the last century. For men, the barong tagalog is the traditional Filipino formal wear.

It is a cool, almost transparent, embroidered shirt, made from silky pina or jusi, two native ecru fabrics. It is worn untucked, over black pants, with a white t-shirt underneath. These days, a Filipino groom might wear the conventional black tux, but Filipino male wedding guests will usually show up in their finest barongs.

The Ceremony

In pre-colonial days, a wedding ceremony lasted three days. On the first day, the bride and groom were brought to the house of a priest or babaylan, who joined their hands over a plate of raw rice and blessed the couple. On the third day, the priest pricked the chests of both bride and groom and drew a little blood. Joining their hands, they declared their love for each other three times. The priest then fed them cooked rice from the same plate and gave them a drink of some of their blood mixed with water. Binding their hands and necks with a cord, he declared them married. The majority of Filipino weddings are now Catholic weddings, but some native traditions remain. Most have special "sponsors" who act as witnesses to the marriage. The principal sponsors could be godparents, counselors, a favorite uncle and aunt, even a parent. Secondary sponsors handle special parts of the ceremony, such as the candle, cord and veil ceremonies. Candle sponsors light two candles, which the bride and groom use to light a single candle to symbolize the joining of the two families and to invoke the light of Christ in their married life. Veil sponsors place a white veil over the bride's head and the groom's shoulders, a symbol of two people clothed as one. Cord sponsors drape the yugal (a decorative silk cord) in a figure-eight shape--to symbolize everlasting fidelity--over the shoulders of the bride and groom. The groom gives the bride 13 coins, or arrhae, blessed by the priest, as a sign of his dedication to his wife's well-being and the welfare of their future children.

The Food

The Filipino wedding feast is elaborate. One feast celebrated at the turn of the last century involved these foods: First was served cold vermicelli soup. The soup was followed by meats of unlimited quantity--stewed goat, chicken minced with garlic, boiled ham, stuffed capon, roast pork and several kinds of fish. There were no salads, but plenty of relishes, including red peppers, olives, green mango pickles and crystallized fruits. For dessert, there were meringues, baked custard flan, coconut macaroons and sweetened seeds of the nipa plant.

I'm happy to inform you that I am currently celebrating my 2 years of working here at Davao Medical Center. With God's help, I survived my job being a nurse. Though at times I felt like giving up but still my eagerness to pursue my profession helped and molded me to be of service to my fellowmen. Though in my small ways, I have helped touch lives and comfort them for their agony, their pains and suffering.

There is no easy way to let go of a relationship that you did not want to end. When a relationship ends there is usually one of the persons in the relationship that wanted to end it and on that didn't want the relationship to end. Unfortunately the person not wanting the relationship to end has the hardest time letting go. There are several reasons for this.

The first thing to remember is that letting go is not easy to do. Most of the people that had been left still feel that there was something there. Maybe they felt that they could have done something to prevent this from happening. Most of the people that get left or dumped feel that it is their fault. Guilt is hard to overcome but is the first step in order to let the other one go. You must get over the feeling that it was your fault. People change and if the other person was not happy and left then you should find a way to eventually realize that making yourself happy is the most important thing in life.

Next thing I would recommend is try to find people to talk to about it. Talking to people you feel comfortable with is a good way to get things off your chest and into the open. If you bottle all these emotions up inside you then will never start on the road to letting go. Talking it out with other is healthy. If you don't have anyone to talk to then go to a church and speak with a preacher or find local support groups. There are support groups for everything.

Another step in the road to letting go is to get out. Get out of the house and off that couch and stay active. It is proven that if one sits around all the time then you have no reason to think about anything but what is bothering you. If you are out with friends and doing things that you did before you were with that person then it is more likely that you will be able to keep the breakup off your mind. Keeping yourself active is a very important aspect in the recovery process of letting go.

The process of letting go is hard for most of us to do. Being in a relationship and having the one you love to leave you when you're not ready makes it so hard to let go. There are so many questions often left unanswered. That is why it is good to get off the couch, talk to someone you trust and remember it is not your fault.

hatred and what it does for you

Hate: Discussed.

Hate is a strong emotion. We can all attest to that. If you have ever been hit in the eye by a bully, who was both bigger and stronger than yourself, and watched them swagger away with your lunch money, you would know very well what hate feels like. Or if without warning you walked in on your girlfriend kissing your best friend, you will also be very familiar with that burning, corrosive, choking, blinding feeling.

Two things I find striking about hate.

The first is that it is always associated with fear. It is impossible to hate something we are not afraid of. I find mosquitoes irritating, but I hate rats. Now fear is an emotion we encounter on a somewhat more regular basis than hate. The thing about fear is that it is both paralyzing and blinding and we can never be more vulnerable than when we are blind and paralyzed. Experience has taught us that nature does not deal very kindly with the blind and vulnerable, so we hate most times simply to cover our vulnerability.

The second thing I find striking about hate is that recently it has become fashionable. From suicide bombers to gangster rappers, without forgetting incendiary speeches like This is a war of good against evil', hatred seems to be increasingly glamorized by today's news makers. And sadly, because of the very strong emotions that hatred can generate, people with alternative and ultimately more intelligent solutions are being swept away in this current of vitriol, by glazed-eyed mad men who are petrified of living in a world in which they are in the least bit vulnerable.

The question I would like to ask is why we are so afraid? In this world where trees produce fruits of their own accord and the earth churns out gold nuggets without our asking isn't is a disgrace that we should whip up such strong negative emotions as hatred.

I'm so thankful and blessed for having an awesome boyfriend..hehehe...he fetch me up at our house at around 6:30pm and we headed to Cafe Marco at Marco Polo Hotel. I was surprised when I opened the car seat because there lay beautiful red roses. We had a great night together and the atmosphere was very festive for both of us. For 10 months now, amid the most disheartening tales we hear and read about wheeling and dealing politicians, less-than-stellar government officials and self-serving public servants, Kaya Natin! has been showing the public glimpses of hope and examples of good work.

Kaya Natin! seeks to continue doing just that. Besides providing a sanctuary to officials who continue to try to do good, it endeavors to inspire the public and make us dream again of a better Philippines.

Our country suffers from poor governance and a citizenry that is cynical and apathetic. Underlying this is both a leadership and citizenship crisis made worse by a dearth of action, example and standards. There is therefore a need to restore faith in government by showing people (in and out of government) who are champions of good governance and ethical leadership.

Convincing the people that it is still possible for good governance to reign will make many of our citizens trust their exemplary leaders once more and share in the immense work of reform that lies ahead.

Kaya Natin!’s vision of a Philippines run by good and effective leaders and a citizenry actively involved in nation-building can turn into realitywith your help.

Having five champions of good governance and ethical leadership is simply not enough. There is a whole gamut of work to be done, an entire country that needs to be brought back to the right track. Surely there are others in the bureaucracy that are doing their best to serve our country and the Filipino people. Kaya Natin! seeks to bring those who practice good governance and promote ethical leadership together. If bad people can come together and bring this country to the dogs, surely, good people can come together to make this country great again!

Today, April 24, 2009, KN! welcomes eight new champions of good governance and ethical leadership. Together with our existing five champions, we will continue spreading the hope virus and bringing the Caravan of Good Governance to as many places and as many citizens that continue to believe in the goodness of the Filipino.

What is a Kaya Natin! champion? Gov. Among Ed Panlilio of Pampanga, Gov. Teddy Baguilat Jr. of Ifugao, Gov. Grace Padaca of Isabela, Mayor Sonia Lorenzo of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija, and Mayor Jesse Robredo of Naga City might come from different political backgrounds and belong to different political parties but they fundamental virtues and values. While there is a more detailed process by which these champions are identifiedit basically boils down to two things. Competence and Character. Those are the fundamental twin requirements we in Kaya Natin! are looking for in our champions.

KN! seeks to identify those who consistently adhere to the principles of discernment, commitment and courage in living up to their oath and promise to promote the people’s agenda.

The first prayer I learned by heart as a child was the Prayer for Generosity. Thanks to my true-blue dad and upbringing, this Ignatian prayer has always been central in how I try to live my every day:

“Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as I should, to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and to ask not for rewardsave that of knowing that I do Your most holy will.”

As Kaya Natin! seeks to identify other champions of good governance and ethical leadership and as we near a very crucial national election, standards will be drawn up to guide us in identifying these good leaders. Groups everywhere are coming up with their own criteria for determining good public servants and how we should vote in 2010. May I invite you to bear in mind the foregoing prayer. I think it captures in essence the kind of leadership we need in the country and the kind of attitude we, as responsible citizens, should try to live up to in doing our own bit in nationbuilding.

Competence and Character. In seeking to do God’s most holy will, however different faiths define it, the overriding sense is that of other-centeredness. Not my political ambition and those of my supporters, family or friends but the good of others, the good of the country. To labor, to toil and to fight necessarily implies that one has the necessary skills needed to fight the good fight or is willing to engage those who can help him or her to fight the good fight. The bottom-line for a public servant is to give of themselves and not to count the cost. We need leaders who do not count political capital, mileage, bailiwick, survival. We need servant leaders and those who will give generously of themselves for the country and for the Filipino people.

Tunay na nakakalungkot talaga ang nangyari sa NBN-ZTE Star witness na si Jun Lozada na ngayon ay nakapiit sa Maynila sa kasong Perjury na isinampa laban sa kanya ni dating Chief of Staff Mike Defensor. Kung sino na nga ang nagsasabi ng katotohanan siya pa ang nasa kulungan habang ang ilan sa ating mga tiwaling opisyal ng pamahalaan na nasangkot dito sa bilyong pisong NBN-ZTE deal ay ‘di man lamang naparusahan at ngayon ay nagbiyabiyahe sa ibang bansa o ‘di kaya ay naglalaro ng golf diyan sa may Wack-Wack.

Malaki na rin ang naisakripsiyo ni Lozada para sa ating bayan. Ang buong pamilya niya ay hindi na makapamuhay ng normal dahil na rin sa ginawa niyang pagbubulgar ng mga katiwalian sa ating pamahalaan. Nu’ng minsan nakausap ng ilang kasama natin sa Kaya Natin! si Lozada at ang sabi niya ay hirap na hirap na ang kanyang pamilya dahil sa mga pangyayaring ito ngunit hindi pa rin siya aatras dahil naniniwala siya na karapatan ng bawat Pilipino na malaman kung ano ang katotohanan. Ang nakakalungkot lang sabi ni Lozada pati ang kanyang mga anak ay nagtatanong sa kanya na bakit kung sino pa ang gumagawa ng mabuti siya pa ang nahihirapan habang ang mga gumagawa ng masama sila pa ang mas masarap ang pamumuhay. According to the news, the incident happened yesterday during wowowe show and at the same time they are airing out President Aquino's burial. I'm not quiet sure if I am against or for Willie. Do check the video below and it's for you to make a stand. I guess, I understand his intention but was misunderstood by others. I think his intentions are good but I just hope this issue will be resolve soon.

The story may or may not be true. The lesson of the story is true, however. I chose , now you pick one.

This is a true story of something that happened just a few years ago at USC.

There was a professor of philosophy there who was a deeply committed atheist.

His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn't exist.

His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic.

For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one had ever had the courage to go against him.

Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation.

At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in Jesus, stand up!" In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool.

If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do it."

And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces.

All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare.

Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist. Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll.

He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor.

He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought.

Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped.

Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom.

The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!!

If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!"

He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it! slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe. As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall.

The young man who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour.

300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of His power through Jesus.

Benefits Of Vitamin D

LONDON (Reuters) - People with a vitamin D deficiency are as much as twice as likely to die compared to people whose blood contains higher amounts of the so-called sunshine vitamin, Austrian researchers said on Monday.

Their study -- the latest to suggest a health benefit from the vitamin -- showed death rates from any cause as well as from heart-related problems varied greatly depending on vitamin D.

"This is the first association study that shows vitamin D affects mortality regardless of the reason for death," said Harald Dobnig, an internist and endocrinologist at the University of Graz in Austria who led the study.

The body makes vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight, a reason for its nickname as the "sunshine vitamin." It is added to milk and fatty fish like salmon but many people do not get enough of it.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and is considered important for bone health. In adults, vitamin D deficiency can lead to osteoporosis, and it can lead to rickets in children.

A number of recent studies have also indicated vitamin D may offer a variety of other health benefits, including protecting against cancer, peripheral artery disease and tuberculosis.

Last week, U.S. researchers said vitamin D may extend the lives of people with colon and rectal cancer.

Dobnig and colleagues, who reported their findings in the Archives of Internal Medicine, studied more than 3,200 people with an average age of 62 who were scheduled for a heart exam between 1997 and 2000.

During an eight-year follow-up the researchers found that the quarter of volunteers with the lowest levels of vitamin D in their blood were at greater risk of dying.

Even when accounting for factors such as heart disease, exercise and other conditions, the researchers found that the risk was double for people with between 5 to 10 nanograms per millilitre of vitamin D in their blood, Dobnig said.

Most doctors believe people should have between 20 to 30 nanograms per millilitre of the vitamin in their blood, he added in a telephone interview.

What causes this effect is not clear, but Dobnig pointed to a host of studies suggesting links to high blood pressure, cancer and fractures as places to begin looking.

The potential health risk of low levels of vitamin D should also prod physicians to be more aware of the potential problem, especially for the immobile, elderly and others who spend a great amount of time indoors, he added.

Many doctors agree that people with low levels of vitamin D cannot make up for it safely by sitting in the sun, but should take supplements.

"These results should prompt us to perform vitamin D measurements on a more frequent basis especially in populations at risk," Dobnig said.

Ang naging isang taong kita noong panahon ng mga Lapid ay nagawa namin sa loob ng wala pang dalawang buwan! At ang katiwaliang ito ay naganap sa loob ng humigit kumulang ng 12 taon.

Paano po nangyari ito? Magbibigay po ako ng 3 dahilan.

Una, ako po ay hindi tumatanggap ng anumang lagay sa aming quarry operation. Alam ng aming mga kabalen na isa sa mga ipinangako ko noong panahon ng kampanya na aalisin ko ang katiwalian sa gobyerno. At ito nga ay ginawa ko.

Pangalawa, pinatupad namin ang nasasaad sa ordinansa. Lahat ng pagbabayad sa quarry na 300 pesos kada truck ay gagawin sa Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO). Kaya babayaran ng lahat ng quarry operators ang kada biyahe sa PTO na walang pasubali. Noong nauna kasi, isang tao lang ang kukuha ng resibo sa PTO at ito ay pamimigay niya sa mga quarry operators na binabayaran nila sa mga quarry sites. At dito nangyayari ang malaking corruption.

At pangatlo, naglagay kami ng mga quarry checkers at monitors, mga taong mabubuti. Ang sabi nga natin, “putting the right person at the right place”. At naging mahigpit kami sa kanila. Tinatanggal namin ang nandadaya at hinuhuli namin ang mga quarry operators o truckers na lumalabag sa mga patakaran.

Samakatuwid, katapatan, pagkapursigido at naaangkop na sistema (fidelity, political will at appropriate systems) ang kailangan upang maalis ang katiwalian sa atin piling.

Hindi pa naman perfect ang aming adbosiyang ito sa Pampanga. Maaari pa itong pagbutihin. Ngunit napatunayan namin na hindi imposibleng maging bahagi ng kahapon ang mga masasamang pangyayari sa ating bansa.

Ang maganda pa rito hindi lamang sa Pampanga nangyayari na unti-unti nating inaalis ang katiwalian at korupsyon sa ating pamahalaan, ang ating mga kasamahan sa Kaya Natin! tulad na lamang ni Isabela Gov. Grace Padaca at Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo ay lumalaban din upang tuluyan nang sugpuin ang salot na ito sa ating lipunan. Isipin na lamang natin ilang scholarship ang mabibigay natin sa kabataan at ilang pabahay para sa mga mahihirap ang maibibigay ng ating pamahalaan kung aalisin ang katiwalian at gagamitin lamang sa tama ang pondo na dapat ay para sa serbisyo publiko. Sana makonsensya na ang ilan nating mga lider sa pamahalaan na iniisip lamang ang pagpapayaman ng sarili at nagiging manhid na sa kalagayan ng ating mga kababayan na patuloy pa rin ang paghihirap.

Just want to share with you guys how much broke I am lately. I dunno but one dreaded disease I have is buying unecessary things. I may be a total replica of the movie "shopaholic"...sob..sob... But sad to say, I seldom use those item. I dunno it makes me feel comfortable having them around (security blanket I guess). But now my statement came...Oh my! got plenty of payable and I have no idea where to get enough cash for all of them. I guess one reason why I blog again is not save money for all my damages...

But guys, I learned my lessons already. Few months ago, I acted like a rich girl (not really rich but blogging gave me many things I want) and when I became lazy enough to blog and my PR drop I have no more molaah... Good thing, I still have my job, as a nurse. But I'm starting to blog again. Hopefully, I'll regain my PR back.

Have you ever thought, how wonderful the world is inspite of all chaos and misunderstanding of humanity?

Now that your a growing person, you realized that life may take you up and down, it is a of struggle to win what your are aiming...A matter of perseverance and love for what you want in order to succeed in life.Through all the good and bad times God was there, maybe not physically but through other people around you, helping you become a better person.

Life is definitely worth living for reasons many may not understand. We, as humans, don't live for us, we live for God. All humans have a part of God in them and with millions of people in the world, you know that there is a lot more to God than we know. We, as humans, are not on this earth for us but for God. Our lives aren't meaningless whatsoever because it depends on how you live your life, what you believe in, what you stand for, and what causes you to fight for.

We fight to stay alive for a couple of reasons: we believe or think that there is nothing greater than living life, we believe or think that we have to live for our family, friends, significant other, or even our kids we believe or think that we're afraid of the afterlife, of the unknown; of all of these things simply because we're just plain afraid.

We fight to earn things because we think and believe that we can't survive without them, we think and believe that things bring us joy & happiness, we think and believe that life wants us to feel like we're doing something right & that we deserve some sort of credit.

We fight for whatever reason because that's the laws of cause & effect, the laws of God, and the laws of the Universe.
I believe that all humans have the right to be happy and to be able to live for whatever reason they may choose, I can't judge the reason, you can't judge or anyone else and we certainly can't make the decision for these people no matter if we think it's meaningless or not.

A Time for Reflection

Sometimes, I find myself asking too many questions and can't figure out reasons for such query. I tend to rationalanize things but my brain can't seem to put into words the exact reason for such. Anyways, I guess we all experienced this kind of things. Sometimes, we felt empty spaces, need to be alone to contemplate. No matter ho hard we try but still there seems to be lacking within us. I guess, we can't please everyone but at least for some we find joy and happiness.

So back to business...many things happened to me for the past days? I guess.. Been pretty busy with work and at the same time tired with blogging. I guess having no PR is one reason why I felt lazy with blogging and not to mention that advertisers pay less nowadays. Another reason is that I get hooked up with facebook especially playing FARMTOWN...hehehe...

Now what? With regards to work, recently I started working in another unit but still part of Heart Center (but I still missed my old unit). And since we are starting new unit part of our activity is undergoing team building session which was held at EDEN Resort.

Many changes happened to my life, met new friends, new experiences and many learning. Glad to be back again here with blogging! Hopefully, I will have the motivation to write again new experiences about my so called life.

Sulit ang binayaran namin....hehehe..and take note mukha ba akong previous? hehehe.. Actually the night before, I went on graveyard shift then after endorsement our group headed directly to the site. All of us were very excited and was deeply awe with the place.

I love traveling. How about you guys? If only I have more money, I'll go to different places worldwide. Fortunately, I'm saving some money for a grand vacation and my next destination is Singapore. Finally, we have booked through PEARL FARM... All of us were excited with the said outing and take note though most of us are residents here in Davao but none of us have gone to that place. Love is comprised of people, places, things, memories, situations, and yourself. Love comes in many different stages. So when you think of the various stages of love you have to ask yourself are you holding someone back by not letting go? Are you holding yourself back by not letting go? Are you looking at life and situations with open eyes and an open heart?

In a romantic relationship it is often know well in advance that the love has died out and the relationship will not progress for the better. As an individual you have to accept this first in your mind and then in your heart. Letting go does not have to be done in one quick swoop, unless you are being physically and emotionally abused, then a quick out is a must. Communication being the key to everything there is no reason that it can not be communicated that the love that was once shared is not longer there.
